Outcasting presents The Failure Collective. The Failure Collective begins with ‘Everyone Knows This is Nowhere’, 2007 (27m25s) by S. Mark Gubb & Gordon Dalton. A pilgrimage based on failure, the film records the artist’s journey across the desert to the site of Evel Knievil’s unsuccessful attempt to leap across the Snake River Canyon in 1974. Toby Huddlestone’s ‘Video Apathy’ 2010 (7m 24s) is an activist work, part history lesson, part political campaign it is a lecture performance that studies a 20th Century history of dissent/disobedience and subversion. The programme fittingly ends with Dominic Gagnon’s ‘RIP In Pieces America’ 2009 (20m 57s) which looks at the end of the American Dream as seen by webcam diary sequences made by survivalists. These collected films were removed from YouTube due to their anti-establishment message.
